Elshad Babakhanov
guitar, percussion
Elshad was born in Minsk in 1970.
He showed his musical talent in first grades school. In the first grade after the
audition he was offered to sing in a children’s chorus, but parents wanted him to go
in for sports. Almost all school years Elshad was taking up sports. Only in the eighth
grade he started playing a guitar. After finishing school he was a candidate to Master
of Sport in free style wrestling and had an unsuccessful try to enter Belarusian
Institute of Physical Culture. In a year Elshad entered Belarusian Polytechnic
Institute where he met Igor Kopylov. Through Igor he met all the guys from “Catty
Sark” and got down to music seriously. In 1992 Elshad became one of “Novi Ierusalim”.
Elshad got married in 1999 and in 2004 they had a son – Timur.

Vadim Kalatsey

Vadim was born in the village Dolbnevo, Brest region, Belarus in 1967.
He finished music school in Marina Gorka (accordion class). At school Vadim was
interested in journalism. In 1984 he tried to enter Faculty of Journalism at Belarusian
State University. In 1985 he entered Belarusian Technological Institute. The next year
Vadim met Igor Kopylov (guitar) and they played together in a students’ musical group.
After studying for a year he went to serve in the Army. Upon his return from an army
- in 1989 - Vadim became a member of a group called “Condor” and in 1990 he was playing
in “Catty Sark” group. In 1992 he graduated from Institute and same time took part in
creation of “Novi Ierusalim”. His first song Vadim wrote in 1985. Also he took part in
projects of Belorussian singers such as Sergey Briksa and Dmitri Dauksh and others. He
got married in 1992. Vadim has the biggest family in “Novi Ierusalim”. In 1993 they had
twins – Pavel and Ilia, in 1995 – a son Vlad and in 1997 – the fourth son called after
his father – Vadim.

Igor Kopylov

Igor was born in Novolukoml, Vitebsk region, Belarus in 1967.
He started singing at 5. From the first form he was singing in a children’s choir in
Novolukoml. When he was at the second grade a vocal teacher from the conservatory lyceum
came from Minsk for auditing Igor. Unfortunately, the result of the audition was the
same as in the case of Alexander Patlis – parents didn’t let him go to another town.
In the fourth grade Igor entered music school (accordion class) and at the same time
we went in for snow skiing. When he was at the seventh Igor was selected as one of
the best perspective sportsman by a trainer and went to Vitebsk, where he started
biathlon. At about this time he started playing a guitar. Since that time there was
a new school music group that played at school parties the music of “Mashina Vremeni”,
“Voskresenie”, “Zemlyane” etc. In 1984 Igor was proposed to carry on the sport career
in Belarusian Technological Institute. There he also was fond of skateboarding and
break dance. In two years, being in the Army, Igor set up a group that was playing
in many official army events. In 1988 he entered preliminary courses at Belarusian
Polytechnic Institute in Minsk. Being a course leader he bought himself a guitar
“Lead Star” on other students’ grants. In 1988 as a guitar player of band “Condor”
he took part in different festivals in Belarus such as “Sustrechi na dougim brodze”,
“Rock Forum” etc. After the decay of “Condor” in 1991 Igor and Vadim Kalatsey created
“Catty Sark” group that existed till 1992. In 1992 he became one of “Novi Ierusalim”.
Igor got married in 2002.

Alexander Manetski

Alexander was born in Minsk in 1971.
In the third grade he was fond of swimming. In the eighth he went in for water polo.
But never mind the fact that all his school years he was taking up sport seriously,
he was also longing for music. After finishing 8th grade Alexander entered the college
of metal workers in Minsk, where he started going for music. So a first-year student
came to a local music group desiring to play a guitar. Unfortunately, all vacancies
of guitar players were filled and the only vacant place was one of a drummer. In a
year Alexander was playing in a group “Azart” that took part in Rock Club concerts
and others. After graduating from the college a year was spent on training to enter
Music College in Minsk. Having passed all the exams successfully he became a student
of the college in 1990. Next year he was invited to “Catty Sark” group as a drummer
and played there until its decay. In 1992 he became one of “Novi Ierusalim”. Alexander
was married in 1997 and in 1999 his two daughters – Caroline and Diana –
were born.

Yuriy Ruskevich

Yuriy was born in Minsk in 1975.
He had his first music lessons in the third grade in music school. It was a piano
class. On father’s insistence in the fourth grade he started playing violin until the
ninth grade. At the same time he was going for track and field athletics, swimming,
wrestling and was playing bass guitar and keyboards in church. After finishing school
he entered a college where he learned the profession of an electrician. After the
college Yuriy worked as a photographer and a bookbinder and carried on taking up
music. For 4 years he was a leader of a musical group in church, recorded phonograms,
mixed, sang, and played keyboard. In 1995 ex-sound engineer of “Novi Ierusalim” Pavel
Malyshkin left the group so the musicians were looking for another one. They met at
one of the concerts and since 1996 Jury was working with “Novi Ierusalim”. Yuriy got
married in 1997 and in a year his daughter Yana was born.

Igor Sorokin

Igor was born in Minsk in 1965.
His first meeting music was in school. In the third grade he learned playing
accordion. But parents wanted him to go in for sports so from the age of 10 he took
up soccer and a year later water polo. Only in seniors grades he returned to his
fondest dream – being a musician. When Igor was in the ninth grade a music group was
being formed. To apply for the music band Igor had to repeat the rhythm and sing a
song. Igor felt but in some months he was the only applicant for a vacancy of a guitar
player.
After finishing school Igor entered Culinary College in Minsk where he kept on playing
a guitar, drums and singing. Since 1983 he served in the Army as a third-grade cook
and there he started playing bass guitar. In 1995 he started working at Belarusian
Institute of National Economic as a laboratory assistant. In a year he entered this
Institute as a student of Accounts Department. At this time Igor met musicians with
whom he was playing in “Inter” and later “Interpol” group. During 7 years the group
was taking part in many Belarusian festivals, where he met A. Manetski, I. Kopylov,
V. Kalatsey and A. Patlis. In 1991 the group was recording English album in Moscow
Studio of Alexander Kalianov, but it was never released. The group decayed because
of the lack of prospects. It was a difficult period in Igor’s life. Meeting the
musicians from “Novi Ierusalim” led Igor to great changes in it. In some time
Igor became a bass guitar player in “Novi Ierusalim”. Igor got married in 1995 and
in 1996 they had a son – Aleksey.
